Stop Asking AI to "Write."
Give It a Job Instead.

This is not a how-to. This is about why AI keeps giving you confident nonsense.

The Problem

AI as a Vending Machine

  • Prompt in → words out. No thinking required from either of you.
  • Fluent does not mean meaningful. Never has.
  • You asked for insight. You got LinkedIn oatmeal.
"LinkedIn oatmeal" — technically food, nutritionally pointless.

The Mistake Isn't the Tool

Writing doesn't start with writing. It starts with thinking you haven't done yet.

Output problems are thinking problems wearing a robot costume.

You can't outsource the thinking and keep the credit.

Pattern Recognition

I Kept Noticing the Same Loop

Writing a post. Planning a project. Explaining something to a committee. Same moves every time.

Not a framework. Survival. Reverse-engineered from what stopped sucking.

Same loop. Different surface. Every time.

The Framework

The Loop

01
Collect
Raw material. Messy is fine.
02
Analyze
Apply pressure. Find the tension.
03
Structure
Choose the shape. Decide what it is.
04
Render
Write last. Translate the work.

Move 01 — Collect

Collect ≠ Organize

  • Notes, fragments, half-sentences. All of it. Don't curate yet.
  • Density before clarity. You can't edit nothing.
  • AI can help you capture — it cannot decide what matters to you.
06 / 12
Move 02 — Analyze

Find the Tension

  • Ask harder questions of your material before you touch the output.
  • Use AI as interrogator, not author. "What's missing? What's the assumption?"
  • The right question: "What am I avoiding in here?"
"What's the tension you're avoiding?"
What's the tension you're avoiding?

Move 03 — Structure

Decide What Kind of Thing This Is

  • How-to? Warning? Story? Argument? Pick one. They're different shapes.
  • Structure is not formatting. It's the skeleton that makes ideas load-bearing.
  • If you skip this, AI will pick a shape for you. You won't like it.
08 / 12
Move 04 — Render

Render Is Translation

  • By the time you get here, the hard decisions are already made.
  • AI speeds up this step. It does not run it. You do.
  • Writing last means writing is actually the easy part.
If AI is deciding what to say, you skipped three steps.

The Real Benefit

This Doesn't Make AI Smarter

It makes you harder to replace.

The loop keeps you in the work — your judgment, your stakes, your direction. AI fills in the motion, not the meaning.

Output you can stand behind, because it came from thinking you actually did.

The Ask

Try This Once

  • Don't ask AI to write. Dump your raw thinking. Ask it to find the holes.
  • Ask it to question your mess. Not beautify it.
  • Five minutes. One thing you're already working on.
If it gives you nothing useful, your mess wasn't thick enough yet.
